|--- Submissions Guidelines ---
|Target publish date: Summer 2007
Electronic submissions only: Send as an attachment to an email message
(address below). Microsoft Word .doc file is preferred, or .rtf file is okay (nearly all
word processors will allow you to save in rtf format). Please virus scan your
document before sending. Generally, the standard format calls for you to include a
heading at the top of each page with your name, story title, page number, etc. We
prefer that you keep your document as simple as possible. You don’t need to double-
space and please don’t do any fancy formatting such as right-justifying, etc.--leave
that to us.
No simultaneous or multiple submissions.
Submission dates: Submissions closed.
What kind of story are we looking for? As the title, RUINS, implies, we are
looking for stories set in or near or about ruins left by ancient civilizations. These
could be earthly ruins such those found all over the world, or they could be alien
ruins found beyond Earth. A strong archaeological theme with good science would
be nice. If your story is about known earthly ruins (Mayan, Egyptian, etc.) we prefer it
to be about the ancient Earth people who created those ruins. We'd rather not have
stories with modern religious themes (although lost, ancient religions are okay). No
stories describing how aliens came down and assisted or created ruins on Earth. If
your ruins are set beyond Earth, however, they would obviously have been created
by aliens (but, please, not by ancient, advanced space traveling Earth people). Click
here for some ideas. I may post on my LJ as well.
Length: Anything up to 10,000 words.
Payment: Upon acceptance. We offer payment in the $25 to $30 range plus
royalties and one copy of the book. We will purchase First Worldwide Anthology
Other Important items: Stories will be judged based on merit. You do not have to
have been published for your story to be accepted, but we strongly recommend that
you have the story critiqued and please send good, tight, clean prose. We’re not
looking for excess sex or violence or anything beyond mild language unless those
are absolutely crucial to the plot. The reason for this is because although this will be
marketed to an adult audience we would like to market to young adults as well. One
of our missions at Hadley Rille Books is to interest younger readers in science fiction.
For this anthology we prefer science fiction stories over other genres. Also, we can't
accept stories set in established universes such as Star Trek(R) or Star Wars(R).
